PubMed Clinical Queries

Find citations for systematic reviews, meta-analyses, reviews of clinical trials, evidence-based medicine, consensus development conferences, and guidelines.

PubMed, a database provided by the National Library of Medicine,  comprises more than 28 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.

Evaluating a Study

Sample questions for evaluating a study:

  • Is the purpose of the study clearly stated?
  • Does the sample accurately reflect the population?
  • How large is the sample size?  
  • Has the sampling method and size been described and justified?
  • Have exclusions been stated?
  • Is the control group easily identified?
  • Is the loss to follow-up detailed?
  • Can the results be replicated?
  • Are there confounding factors?
  • Can the results be extrapolated to other populations?
  • Are the conclusions logical?
